Birna was the CEO of Íslandsbanki hf. from 2008 - 2023. 

She has over 30 years of experience in the banking sector, both in Íslandsbanki and in the Royal Bank of Scotland. Before her banking career she worked in marketing as the Marketing Director of the television station Stöð 2, among other roles.

Education: Business Administration, Cand.oecon from University of Iceland and has a MBA for University of Edinburgh.
